Julian's Phone Cabling Notes, for German, American, & British Interconnection. ================================================================================ Deutsche Telekom Naming Convention: ADO old type TAE new type N = Nicht-fernmeld-apparat = Non phone = Answerphone F = Fernmeld-apparat = Phone ================================================================================ Wiring Precepts: Privacy/Sharing: German: Lifting one handset on a line disconnects other phones on the line, so you can not be overheard. This implemented in the multi-way sockets, each device passes signal back to next device, until handset is lifted. British: Allow multiple handsets to be lifted simultaneously for party calls. I have modified much of my German socketry to allow party calls. Ringing: Americans do it without earth. British with earth. Germans without I think, not sure. 2 Signal lines on a western connector: Americans: use center 2 German: uses outer 2 British: ? ---- Conventions for My Circuit Diagrams: Left-Right Aspect: Sockets are as viewed from external world, looking into an equipment with such a socket.
